The original battery installation consisted of two large lead acid truck batteries. Originally wired so that one battery was for the engines and the other for domestic systems, but a previous owner had connected the isolator switches in series so that both switches had to be on and then both batteries powered everything. This meant that sitting at anchor, for instance, with equipment turned on could deplete both batteries, with no way of starting the engines. This bodge was obviously reversed, with new lead acid batteries for the engine and a 314Ah LifePO4 battery for the domestic systems.

The available space in the battery compartment was big enough for the LifePO4 battery, but not the BMS, fuse, remote solenoids and chargers. Fitting these, or the batteries, elsewhere would have meant some very awkward and long cable runs, so we came up with the solution you see below. The battery, BMS, fuse and remote solenoids are in the enclosed section of the box, keeping all of the terminals and connections safely insulated, with the busbars and chargers in the open area above.

The entire assembly is self contained and can be disconnected in minutes and lifted out. The top of the sealed box can be easily removed to access the main fuse.
